Uhmmm … yeah, or just wait till it’s on sale on DVD. I was really not all that impressed. Sure, the idea is great, but I thought it lacked in the acting/directing department. Why the hell is Rob the center of everyones universe? I hated that the camera guy always had to have the camera up in Robs face, and he couldn’t do anything without Rob. It would have worked much better if the “importance” of Rob had been left out … and wtf was that about going back for that girl (whose name I also forget)in the building ???
The monster was cool though !

I guess we have the exact opposite opinion. I thought the IDEA was unoriginal and derivative (Godzilla, anyone?), but the implementation of it was dead-on. There’s nothing in this movie you haven’t seen before… but you’ve never seen it done this well, imo.
This is the movie I was expecting to see when I saw that Godzilla remake back in 2000-ish. THIS is the movie I expected to see when I rented “The Host” a few months ago.
The video-camera thing was extremely annoying at the beginning, but either I got used to it or they stopped shaking the camera so damn much. When the action started, I was okay with it. For a while I was expecting the guy to put the camera down and have the movie proceed as normal. I’m glad they didn’t do that; it would have ruined everything.
As for going back to get the girl… Stupid decision, but entirely believable. If it was my wife, I would have gone back, too.

Sure - if it had been my wife too, then sure. But if it was a girl I had only spent a single night with, and she had even brought a new boyfriend to my farewell party (like in the movie)- then screw the b!tch!
I’m not saying the plot is original -we have seen the monster invasion a thousand times before. But it was “sort of” original to see that kind of movie through a handheld camera … that’s what I meant.

I’m going to say this here so I can be the first person to go on record.
To all the World of Warcraft players:
There is a scene in this movie that takes place in a subway tunnel. You know the one I’m taking about.
…am I the only one who thought about Murlocs? Replay that scene in your head, and at the appropriate moment, dub in the “murloc sound” from world of warcraft. Hilarious. Now I’ve ruined the movie for you. You’re welcome.
