What is the use of a possibly damaged weapon in a situation like this? Unless Shaw is an expert in its use and we don´t know it.
Show the weapon to Gilian or simply take it and run? Try to shoot what appears to be a cloud of nanites with it?
Very bad situation for the characters = excelent clifhanger.
