Storms Last Night

For those of you who know what part of the country I call home, we made it through last night’s weather unscathed. Things got seriously wrecked a few miles south of where I live, but it was mostly a non-issue around my neighborhood. There were only a few fatalities in Georgia (so far), but Alabama lost well over a hundred people.

It’s probably too soon for that joke about how the tornado knocked the wheels off of the governor’s mansion… maybe in a few days.

So, what’s worse, the storms or snow?

I live in Maryland and we had the storms come through early this morning. several dopplar indicated tornados, and a few visual funnel clouds (I didn’t see any), but to my knowledge no touch-downs for the tornados. We have had significant rainfall at least 2-3 days each week for the past month and a half. I should have had half of my garden planted a month ago, but can’t ever get in there to work the ground because it’s always too muddy.

I’m not complaining though. It’s better than drought.

I haven’t had a chance to view it yet, but here’s a short film that tackles the topic of What if H. P. Lovecraft taught sex education.

The video is an awesome and hilarious spoof of Lovecraft. People who aren’t fans of Lovecraft should probably skip it, though.

I just watched the video and feel pretty much the same way about it. Glad you liked it.

I didn’t see that end coming.

    No pun intended.

Nice find Nate! Some of the links seem broken, but what’s there is very cool.

    Also, shameless plug:

Nice, but not as good as the scarlet witch. Did you ever do that Dorothy pic from Oz that was mentioned on this site some time ago?

Also, has ANYONE heard from DI at all?

  7. WeREwOLf, June 16, 2011:

Damn, I’d forgotten all about the Dorothy thing. Gimme a few months… or a year… or eventually.

Far as I know, D.I. is alive and well, working a few too many day jobs to keep pace in the new crappy economy. Also, after his old PC and backups were fried, his files are effectively gone, far as writing goes. I hate to speak for him, but it seems that any writing he does at this point (between jobs) will most likely be from scratch.

    Hopefully I’m wrong on that.

This whole job thing sucks! I work for a company whose bread-n-butter comes from supporting contracts at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. I finished the work I had on a project last month and moved back to the company office, where I have just been sitting with no work ever since.

And there’s no work on the horizon. Maybe some work after the fiscal year begins, in OCTOBER, and that’s assuming that the a-holes in the government can get a freakin’ budget passed that includes some money for NASA.

I have a potential opportunity to transfer to another division of the company, but that would mean a 46 mile drive (one-way) plus daily use of a toll road, all without any increase in pay. I figure I’ll lose $10/day, but at least remain employed and insured. IF THE OPPORTUNITY BECOMES REALITY. Right now the whole thing is in the hands of management, and it’s becoming a pissing contest for a variety of reasons.

I guess I’m still better off than most though. A friend of mine was laid off a month ago, finally found a job, but will now have to drive over 90 miles each way to get there and home. I can’t imagine having to spend roughly $30/day on gas. Probably more.

This has been too long of a posting, but the bottom line is that I hope DI is able to return to writing before the year is out. If reading his stories helps me cope with things in life, I can only imagine how it must be therapeutic for him to write them.

As far as the art goes WW, just make sure you let us know here when you have something new to view.

Movie Review – The Call of Cthulhu, 2005

This is a short (46 minute) silent film that is very good and well worth seeing. I haven’t read this particular story in quite some time, but from what I remember the movie is one of the best adaptations of HPL’s writings that I’ve ever seen. Even though it’s silent, I recommend it. I’ve watched it twice already.

Yeah, I still check in once in a while. Nice find on HP’s notes/ideas; bookmarked it to read through later, some cool ideas in there.

    Still checking in… still hoping.

Same here. I check in almost every morning just in case.
