In the beginning, there were stories.
And the stories needed words to give them shape, and the words needed a Voice to give them substance, so a Voice was born.
The Voice needed a name, and so it called itself Dark Icon.
Okay, now that we’re all laughing at me trying to sound dark and pretentious, let’s get serious. You want to know what this blog is and, most importantly, what’s in it for you.
First of all, realize that this blog does not exist in a vacuum, it is part of a collection of sites that are focused on and populated by the stories that I write. This blog does not exist for its own sake; It does not exist to make me rich, or famous. It does not exist so that I can throw advertising at you and get paid when you click on something.
So what IS about, then?
This is a writer’s blog. It is about the Writer (Dark Icon), the Written (The Stories), and the Writing (the Dark Art).
Here’s some honesty for you: This blog exists for me, and, to a lesser extent, you. InDarkness is about me expressing myself, getting feedback, keeping you informed, and getting to know the people who like my stories. It’s about you finding out what I’m thinking about, what I’m working on, what’s coming soon, and what’s not coming at all. It’s about you getting a deeper, closer look at the stories I wrote (and some I DIDN’T write), at the creative process that produced them, and at the person who is a slave to that creative process. It’s about me sharing facts, fantasies, opinions, and pieces of my life that you might find interesting.
This blog is like one of those “special features” DVD’s that comes with your favorite movie. You know the ones I’m talking about… full of interviews and “The Making Of…” and “Behind The Scenes”… all that stuff. But here you have the added bonus of interacting with other people who’ve read my stories and liked them enough to learn more about them…in other words, people like you. Regular visitors will also be among the first to know when there’s something new to read in the Library, which is probably the main reason you’d want to subscribe to the RSS feed.
So that’s it. I hope you enjoyed my little attempt to explain myself here and are at least interested enough to come back every once in a while.
