In Darkness

All of us… even the world itself… began in darkness.

How do you get your fix?

I’m talking fiction. What is your preferred method for obtaining your scifi/horror/fantasy entertainment fix? By “preferred” I mean two things… how would you LIKE to get it, and how do you get it MOST OFTEN (assuming they’re not the same).

Television?
Movies?
Computer Games?
Short stories?
….online or in magazines or anthologies?
Novels?
….online or physical books? How about audiobooks?

For me, it’s television and audiobooks. I haven’t read an actual physical novel in quite a while, but with audiobooks I’ve “read” the entire Dark Tower series from Stephen King, and I’m four books into the “Wheel of Time” from Robert Jordan… all books that I would never have time to read otherwise. In fact, if it weren’t for audiobooks I probably wouldn’t read novels at all… period. I just don’t have the time, and when I DO have time, I fill it with either writing or gaming.

Oddly enough, I read very few short stories, and almost NO fiction on the internet.

How ’bout you?

Awesome so far

So I’m in Chicago for a three-week trip (home on weekends, of course).
What’s the FIRST thing I do when I get to the hotel? The VERY first thing?

I leave my wallet in the cab.

That’s just awesome.

Not Dead Yet

I haven’t been posting or interacting very much lately due to work and travels.

Last week I was in Ft. Lauderdale. I was home (in Atlanta) just in time for OMGWTFTORNADO!!!1, and now I’m in Chicago for most of this week. Writing has pretty much ground to a halt, but I expect the second half of this week to be much calmer with more time for stories.

BTW, the tornado that hit downtown Atlanta was nowhere near my house. I live about 30 miles south of there. All we got at my house was a lot of wind, very little rain, and a pair of very anxious mothers.

Pop Quiz on Cubicle Etiquette

One Question:

You walk past somebody’s cube. Their computer is positioned so that their back is to the opening of the cube (NOT by choice, I might add). Looking over their shoulder you see iTunes up on one monitor, and on the other you see some code that the person is deeply in thought over. Headphones are on. Do you:

A: Keep walking. Either come back later, or send him an email.
B: Walk up behind him and slap your hands down on his shoulders.
C: Grab the back of his chair and shake it.
D: Wiggle your fingers in front of the monitor he’s looking at.
E: Sit down behind him, sigh heavily, and wait.

Only one choice is correct. All the other choices will get a stapler shoved down your throat sideways, you rude motherfuckers.

Oh yeah… if somebody touches me again I swear I’m gonna try to jam an entire file cabinet into one of their eye sockets and yank it out the other. Do NOT Touch Dark Icon. Do Not.

No, She Wasn’t Kidding.

So the wife and I were watching some dumb action movie the other night. I think it was “WAR” with Jet Li and Jason Statham. Anyway, toward the beginning of that movie somebody fires a shotgun into a wooden crate, producing the characteristic circular shot pattern in the wood. If you’ve ever seen such a pattern, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, you may was well stop reading right now.
